The meaning of the lyrics of the song "Кога падна на Пирина" by the artist "Vaska Ilieva"

The poem "When he fell on Pirin" by Vaska Ilieva is a metaphorical depiction of the death of the Bulgarian revolutionary Yane Sandanski and his dedication to the liberation of Macedonia.

The three falcons soaring over the dying hero symbolize hope, freedom, and Macedonia itself. Each falcon offers Yane a path to salvation, each associated with a significant location for Macedonia: the peak of Pirin embodies the country and its indomitable spirit; the White (or perhaps Black) Sea – a path to freedom and new opportunities; Vardar – the river flowing through Macedonia, symbolizing its unity.

However, Sandanski, wounded in the very heart, realizes his wounds are fatal. He accepts his fate but believes his cause will continue. His words "And there will be other sons of Macedonia, Others will liberate her" express faith in future generations and the inevitability of liberation.

Therefore, the poem conveys not only grief over the hero's death but also the unwavering spirit of the struggle for freedom that Yane Sandanski bequeathed to his followers.
