The meaning of the lyrics of the song "Bärwaldpark" by the artist "Von Wegen Lisbeth"

The song "Bärwaldpark" by the German indie-pop band Von Wegen Lisbeth features a lyrical protagonist who ironically describes his relationship with nature and how it changes under the influence of love.

From the very first lines, the text is saturated with sarcasm. The "highest mountain" turns out to be just a man-made hill Teufelsberg, which people climb perhaps only once a year for a witches' sabbath. Bärwaldpark, which gave the song its name, is a "lie," a pathetic imitation of a real forest. The lyrical hero does not hide his indifference to nature: "I've never been interested in nature. And I find anyone who is strange." His life philosophy is simple and pragmatic: bad weather – stay at home, good weather – why do you need nature when there is a bar?

However, a new motif appears in the text – "you." And it is with this "you" that the hero begins to perform actions that contradict his nature. He, a convinced homebody, begins to walk in the park. At the same time, he himself admits: "It has less to do with the park and much more to do with you."

Further descriptions, whether it be "the river is full of soap" or "the best air is in the bar," only reinforce the ironic contrast between the unnatural, urban environment and the natural, natural one, to which the hero is indifferent. The only thing real for him is his feelings for "you," for whom he is ready to step on the throat of his own song and go even to such a "fake" park as Bärwaldpark.
