The meaning of the lyrics of the song "Fantastic" by the artist "Will.I.Am"

In the song "Fantastic", Will.i.am sings about his feelings after breaking up with his girlfriend. He tries to convince himself and her that he is okay, although he is actually hurt and misses her.

The lyrics are full of contradictions. On the one hand, Will.i.am repeats that everything is "fantastic", "super", he is doing well. On the other hand, he describes his pain of losing his beloved: nine years of relationship, six years of family, the last two years of pain. He admits that their love was immature, a game, but he is still hurt that the girl who once considered him everything now cannot even say his name.

Will.i.am misses communication, intimacy, he wants to know how his ex-lover's life is going. He understands that it is hard for her to be just a friend after everything they've been through, and accepts her decision to leave, even if she had to replace love with hate.

The repeating phrase "don't you worry 'bout me" sounds more like an attempt to convince himself than a real statement. The multiple repetitions of the word "unreal" at the end of the song reinforce the feeling of unreality of what is happening, as if he himself cannot believe that their story is over.

I'm alright, i'm alright, i'm alright, i'm fantastic [x2]

I'm Al...

Nine years of lovin you, that's now flushed down the drain

Six years with a bundle of joy, the last two was the pain

Too immature to handle love, we was just playin games

You used to say I was your everything, now you can't say my name

I never thought that I could survive, without you in my life

If you was wonderin about how i'm doin, baby i'm doin alright

But it don't even look like you would cry, if I was to up and die

Die tomorrow, uh-huh-uhhh, but that's alright gi-irrrl, cause

Don't even worry 'bout me [x2]

I'm doin good now, doin super baby

Don't even worry 'bout me, i'm super duper baby

I'm doin good now, yeah

Six months and a couple of weeks and not one call from you girl

Three months after we broke down, I moved up in the world

I wanna know what's goin on, what's goin on in your life

I know it's really hard to be my friend, when you were gon' be my wife

We used to love our relationship, but now we just can't relate

I understand why you had to go and change your, love for me into hate

And that's why I believe you wouldn't cry, if I was to up and die

Die tomorrow, uh-huh-uhhh, but that's alright gi-irrrl, cause

Don't even worry 'bout me [x2]

I'm doin good now, super duper baby

I'm doin good now, i'm fantastic

Fantastic, yeah
